INTRODUCTION

Get more details on your retirement plan. This calculator will give you an idea of where you are and how to get where you want to be.

Be aware that this will not give you an exact result since almost everything is a guess:

  1. How much will I need to live on?
  2. How much will inflation be?
  3. How much will my investments grow?
  4. When will I die?

Plus, there are many simplifications made in this calculator that are not necessarily true:

  1. Income tax brackets increase with inflation every year
  2. Inflation and interest are compounded annually
  3. All years equate to the full year
    1. If you retire in year XX it means that you work up through 12/31/XX with contributions and growth for that year
    2. The retire table starts the 1st year of retirement which will be 1+XX
    3. You die on the last day of the year, so expenses are needed for the full year in which you die
    4. Annual expenses are taken at the start of the year and growth is calculated at the end of the year
  4. Spouses retire together
  5. Contributions stop at retirement
  6. Accounts are taxed as regular income

But there is still great value here by giving you the ability to do what if scenarios:

  1. Should I pay off my mortgage? (it means less in your investment accounts but you eliminate a fixed expense)
  2. Understand sequence of returns risk using historical S&P 500 returns (see how retiring varies by different years in history with all else being equal)
  3. When should I start collecting Social Security?
  4. Should I move to a state with no income tax?
  5. How much do I need before I retire?
  6. Should I put money in a Roth IRA?
  7. How much do I need for healthcare?

Privacy concerns:

  1. No identifiable information is saved - (no names, addresses, etc)
  2. Only a unique configuration version is used so you can continue where you left off (bookmark it or you'll need to re-enter the data later)
